Winter Concert Resources for Students

Our Winter Concert is fast approaching! It is on Thursday, December 10th in the Shapleigh Middle School Gymnasium! The K/1 Concert "Winter Fun" starts at 6 PM. The 2/3 Concert "In the Spirit!" starts at 6:45 PM.

Here are some resources to help students learn their music!

K/1 "Winter Fun" Concert Resources:
"I Want to Be an Elf" (Grades K/1):
I want to be an elf.
I can't help myself.
I want to fly with reindeer.
I want to be an elf.

Think of all the toys.
Think of all the candy.
Up at the north pole.
Wouldn't that be dandy.

I want to be an elf.
I can't help myself.
I want to fly with reindeer.
I want to be an elf.

I most certainly, positively probably
want... to... be... an... elf.
I want to be an elf.

Don't you?

"Happy Hanukkah" (Grades K/1):
I have something I would like to say to you.
Oh yes I really do. I have a wish for you!
It's a little something I can give to you.
And if you want me to, I'll give my wish to you!

Have a Happy Hanukkah, Happy Hanukkah to you!
Have a Happy Hanukkah, Happy Hanukkah to you!

"Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" (Grades K/1):
Solo: You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen.
But do you recall? The most famous reindeer of all?

All: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Had a very shiny nose,
And if you ever saw it, You would even say it glows.
 All of the other reindeer Used to laugh and call him names;
They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say,
"Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then how the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, you'll go down in history! (Repeat)

We're gonna find a big hill, and have some winter fun!

Grab you hat! Coat and boots.
Find your scarf. Mittens too!

We'll make a pile of snowballs, snowballs, you better watch out!
We'll make a pile of snowballs, and have some winter fun.

We're gonna have hot chocolate, chocolate, with big marshmallows!
We're gonna have hot chocolate, and have some winter fun.

Grab you hat! Coat and boots.
Find your scarf. Mittens too!

Reindeer, may I have a word?
This is getting so absurd.
I know that you're Santa's pal and that's ok.
Even so, there's something I've just got to say.

CHORUS: Turn off that nose! It's way too bright.
You think it's nice, but it's not polite.
I'm trying to sleep but I can't get a wink.
All because your nose goes and goes, goes and goes:
Blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink, blink
TURN IT OFF!
Blink, blink, blink, blink, blink
PLEASE!

Reindeer, may I speak to you?
Maybe I'm not getting through.
Just because your nose is red and has a glow,
I don't need to see if bouncing off the snow.

CHORUS

Turn off that nose! I can't stand it.
Turn off that nose! Blink, blink, blink, blink.
(repeat)

TURN OFF THAT NOSE. PLEASE!

"In the Spirit!" (Grades 2/3):
We're in the spirit! The holiday spirit!
The spirit! The holiday spirit!
The spirit! The holiday spirit!
We are in the spirit now! (REPEAT)

Raise your voice, sing out loud!
Bop boop bop boop ba dop bow.
Send your voice to the crowd!
Bop boop bop boop ba dop bow.

(2nd time go to last part)
You can join the celebration!
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Ba ba doo bop!
In the spirit!

Bells are ringin'! Folks are singin'! Band is swingin'!
Gotta get, gotta get in the spirit!
Music's playin'! Folks are swayin', holidayin'!
Gotta get in the spirit now!

(REPEAT first 2 paragraphs)

You can join the celebration!
Come on, come on, come on, come on! Yeah!
You can join our celebration!
Come on, come on, come on, come on! Yeah!
You can join our celebration now!
We are in the spirit now!
yell: Yeah!

"Over the River" (Grade 2 classes Hartley, J.R., Staulcup):
Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go!
The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through white and drifted snow.
Over the river and through the woods, oh how the wind does blow!
It stings the toes and bites the nose as over the ground we go.

Over the river! Over, over!

Over the river and through the woods, and straight through the barnyard gate.
It seems that we go so dreadfully slow. It is so hard to wait.
Over the river and through the woods, now Grandma's cap I spy.
Horrah! for fun, the pudding's done. We're on for the pumpkin pie.

Over the river! Over, over!

Repeat Verse 1

End "aaaah!"

"O Whacky Christmas Tree" (Grade 2 classes DeLuca, Howe):
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree.
Thy leaves are so unchanging.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree.
Thy leaves are so unchanging.

Not only green when summer's here.
But also when 'tis cold and drear.

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree.

Thy leaves are so unchanging.

Baa Baa Black Sheep on the Boomwhackers

2nd graders have been learning how to play the boomwhackers. Boomwhackers are colored tubes of different lengths. Each colored tube plays a different note.
Here are a few of the 2nd grade classes playing "Baa Baa Black Sheep" on the boomwhackers!

Forte-Piano Song Grade 1

Students in grade 1 have started learning about sound opposites. The first opposite is LOUD-soft. The Italian musical terms are forte for loud and piano for soft.

This is a fun video we loved doing in class where students raise their arms up for forte and bend down for piano.
